Room Tour @CatherineGrace_

In the early weeks of my pregnancy with Little Miss my husband and I moved into a workers cottage in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Built in the 1890s, with a recent extension out the back, it has a very common Sydney floor plan with bedrooms towards the front on one side of the hallway, opening up to an open plan living / dining and kitchen area out the back.

Little Miss' room, being in the middle of the house, has very little natural light so I decided not to fight this and instead worked to create a cosy atmosphere, conducive to sleep and quiet play. We have a small play area in our living room for her more boisterous adventures! Before we moved in we had the interior of the house painted and choose Wattyl Snowdonia, a beautiful soft grey, for Little Miss’ room and a few other areas of the house. This colour played with the fact that the room is relatively dark without closing the space in completely.

When Little Miss started to outgrow her cot {a white Stokke Sleepi that we loved} we wanted something a little different for her toddler bed and decided to give her room a small makeover to reflect her new “grown up” personality. The grey remained the perfect backdrop, especially as I am crushing on blush, greys and metallics at the moment. Little Miss is besotted with her Cloth & Thread mouse, a birthday gift, so this little handmade beauty became the inspiration for the room refresh.

We ordered the Rafa Kids R Toddler Bed directly from Rafa Kids and could not be happier with it. Little Miss can climb in and out of the bed on her own, as it is not too high, and the raised sides keep her safe from falling out without the need to have the bed hard up against a wall. I wanted to make the bed an inviting space for her so I dressed it with soft knit blankets, mountains of fun cushions and lots of new and old friends.

Seen above: Atsuyo Et Akiko unicorn, Pompon Pétillant sleepy rabbit & Castle silver Penny cushions from Kido Store  // Lucky Boy Sunday Loulou from Fawn Shoppe //  Colette Bream Strawberry ice-cream softie from This Little Love // Stripped knit blanket from Kate & Kate // Caroline Bosmans cross knit jacquard scarf from Mini X Style / nude pink Menu Yeh table from The Minimalist / Sketch Inc nesting dolls from Leo & Bella

ittle Miss just loves us to read to her and I have always thought that beautiful books are well worth displaying. These Ikea picture ledges are perfect to display some of her favourites, and some of mine! Her favourite birthday outfit, a Tutu du Monde delight from Papier D'Amour is displayed on her door with the blush tones complementing the little rosy cheeks of the ever captivating Fine Little Day Pirum Parum pear poster from Leo & Bella

We purchased this armchair for night feeding, and now it serves as the perfect place to curl up with a book. Little Miss likes to play with her Rock & Pebble pear house while we read.

Perhaps what Little Miss wears is still more about what I like than what she does, however I have noticed she has a definite stance on shoes and always goes for her leopard print ones! I love this Such Great Heights clothes rack for storing all her special pieces and dress ups. Pieces shown are from PrintebebeCountry RoadJacadi & Mama Papa, with a Hubble + Duke leather crown and Numero 74 soft camera ready for make believe. The playful print is Cooee's Mouse print, purchased from Style Trader.

I wanted to incorporate pieces from my childhood and my husband's childhood in Little Miss' room. A very special elephant frames holds a photo of myself, as a toddler, my mum and her mum, who we are lucky to still have with us to enjoy Little Miss. The small cup is from my husband's christening. Every year I give my husband a Playsam car for Christmas to represent something special that happened that year; this raw version is from last year. For Little Miss' second birthday I wanted to say thank you to my husband for being such a supportive father and husband. I commissioned this custom illustration of Little Miss by Georgia MacMillan and we absolutely love it.

I wanted our daughter to have a place to play, to sleep and to dream, however most of all I wanted a place Little Miss could feel is her own.
