Today, we are excited to share a  DIY here from Samantha Du of  The Hip Kid and Jeanne Chan of Shop Sweet Things.

This would make such a thoughtful and unique baby shower gift. Or, what about making it for your own baby?! How sweet would that be to wrap your newborn for the first time with something you made with your own hands?!

Check out her easy-to-follow tutorial below to make your own!

Materials and Supplies:

3 Yards of white gauze (have them cut into a yard each. Or you can use any desired length if you want it bigger.)

+ 2 Russet potatoes

Pineapple, Strawberry and Lemon mini cookie cutters (these are very inexpensive and cute!)

Neon green, yellow and pink non-toxic fabric paint

2 small paintbrushes (one round and one flat)

Needle and white thread

+ Cup with water

Pairing Knife

+ White board

+ Scissors

+ Towel

Step 1: Prepare your gauze. Hand or machine-wash it in cold water to prevent shrinkage and tumble dry low or lay flat to dry. Once it’s done cut all the loose strings at the ends. With a needle and thread take the side of the fabric that has been cut and do a simple ½ inch hem. Optional: I like to leave the natural edge of the gauze un-hemmed for a more natural look.

Step 2: Use the knife and cut your potato in half so you have a flat surface. Then use your cookie cutter to imprint your potato. Press down ¾ of the way.

Step 3: Take your pairing knife and slice around the cookie cutter so you can peel it off to reveal the shape of the stamp.

Step 4: With the brushes put a coat of paint on the stamp but make sure all the paint is even on the surface to avoid clumps. Be sure to use different brushes for each color. I used the flat brush for the larger surface and round for the smaller.

Step 5: Put the gauze on top of your white board because the paint will leak through a bit. Find a pattern you like, for me I like it scattered with every other like so. Take the potato with the paint and stamp the gauze. Just like a rubber stamp, make sure you wiggle it a bit to ensure an even stick. After each stamp, I take a towel and press down gently to clean off any excess paint.

Step 6: When you complete the entire swaddle lay flat to dry for 15-30 minutes. And voila you have a set of beautiful Neon Fruit Swaddles to keep or gift!
